Dear friends, comrades, brothers and sisters
Honourable guests
It is a great honour for me to join you today as we celebrate the 66th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution. This occasion not only marks a pivotal moment in Cuba’s history but also serves as a reminder of the enduring values of solidarity, resilience, and internationalism that have been central to Cuba’s revolutionary spirit.
The Cuban Revolution was a profound turning point for the Cuban people. It was the moment they reclaimed their sovereignty, dignity, and hope for a brighter future.
Under the leadership of Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, and other revolutionary figures, Cuba transformed itself from a nation plagued by inequality, corruption, and foreign domination into a society that prioritized health, education, and social justice.
For the Cuban people, the revolution was more than a political victory – it was a path to dignity and self-determination
Since that transformative duy in 1959, Cuba has stood as a beacon of hope for those who believe in justice and equality. The Cuban Revolution was not merely an event confined to one country-it resonated across the globe, inspiring oppressed peoples, liberation movements, and advocates for human dignity everywhere.
Cuba has always championed the cause of self-determination for peoples living under occupation and oppression.
From the earliest days of the revolution, Cuba made its stance clear in supporting the Palestinian struggle for freedom and independence.
This unwavering solidarity was not just political rhetoric but was reflected in tangible acts of support – diplomatic, moral, and cultural.
Central to this bond was the profound and historic relationship between two great leaders: Yasser Arafat and Fidel Castro. These two giants of 2,oth-century liberation movements shared a vision of a world free from imperialism and injustice. Their friendship was not merely symbolic; it reflected a shared struggle against colonialism, and it was grounded in mutual respect and revolutionary camaraderie.
Fidel Castro once said that Cuba stood firmly with the Palestinians because their struggle mirrored Cuba’s own battle against imperial domination. Similarly, Yasser Arafat held deep admiration for tridel and the Cuban people, recognizing in them a steadfast ally in the Palestinian resistance for freedom. This relationship strengthened international solidarity, showing the world that the struggles of one people are interconnected with the struggles of another.
Today, as we mark the ooth anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, we also reaffirm our commitment to these values of solidarity and justice.
The Cuban Revolution teaches us that no matter how small a nation may seem, its impact on global justice and human dignity can be profound.
In a world increasingly divided, the example of Cuba’s solidarity with Palestine and indeed with peoples around the world-reminds us of the power of unity and shared purpose. Let us honour that legacy not only through words but through action, as we continue to build bridges of understanding and friendship between nations.
Finally, I would like to commend the Norwegian/Cuban Friendship Association for its tireless efforts in fostering these bonds of solidarity and ensuring that Cuba’s revolutionary Iegacy continues to inspire new generations.
On this 66th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, let us reaffirm our commitment to the ideals of freedom, justice, and solidarity that unite us all.
Viva la Revolucion!
Viva Cuba!
Viva Palestina!
Thank you Tusen takk
